Terrified Brown University students described hearing “loud bangs,” sprinting through hallways and seeing kids dive under desks as a crazed gunman stormed the campus on Saturday afternoon — killing at least two people and wounding eight others.
Student Martyna Kaps told the Brown Daily Herald that she heard “loud bangs” as she was leaving a review session at the Barus & Holley Engineering school building for a “Principles of Economics” course.

“There were still people in the classroom,” she told the outlet.
“From what I heard, many of them dove behind the teacher’s desk and hid there to avoid the bullets,” Kaps added.

Another student on the Rhode Island Ivy League campus, Refath Bari GS, was walking down the stairs in the Engineering Research Center when chaos erupted as students heard blaring gunshots.
“There was confusion and then people started running,” he told the outlet.
“I ran as fast as I could to the other side of the street towards Thayer Street, and then I found a student and went into her apartment.”

The suspect, who police described as a man dressed in black, fled on foot and remains at large as of Saturday evening.
