Let it snow! NYC could see 1 to 3 inches with weekend storm, while NJ, Long Island forecast for more

There’s snow place like home this weekend.

The Big Apple could be covered in a light layer of white Saturday evening, with the first snowfall of the season expected to dump as much as three inches across the five boroughs.

The winter wonderland won’t kick off until around 9 p.m. — meaning SantaCon revelers have plenty of time to enjoy the annual jolly fete and 40-degree temperatures before taking refuge from the snow.

“It’s going to be about a 12-hour event — snow is going to be generally light to moderate at times,” explained Tyler Roys, a senior meteorologist at Accuweather.

A range of one to three inches of snow is predicted throughout the city, with the last snowflake expected to make landing around 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Temperatures will drop below freezing overnight Saturday, but will generally stick in the upper 20s, Roys said.

Those chilly temperatures will stick around throughout Sunday — and will even drop into the teens Sunday night before rising back to the 30s again on Monday.

The wider metro region is predicted to get much more snowfall, with as much as five inches expected to fall across Westchester County and central New Jersey.

Eastern Long Island is also forecast to get that five-inch dumping, but the storm will last a few hours longer than the 12-hour blitz in the Big Apple.

The snowfall will be the first for the city this season — and the first in nearly 300 days. The last measurable snowfall was in February when the Big Apple suffered through a 10-inch dump and whiteout.

The five boroughs typically see their first snowfall during the second week of December, making this weekend’s storm right on cue.

In preparation for the storm, the city’s Emergency Management Department activated its Winter Weather Emergency Plan.

Sanitation crews will be pre-treating the roadways throughout Saturday and stand ready to plow the streets as the snow piles up.

The NYCEM warns New Yorkers to stay home and off the roads during the storm if possible.

“Snow leads to slippery conditions. Just take it easy tonight and tomorrow morning,” reminded Roys.
