Jennifer Shah, Former ‘Real Housewives’ Star, Is Released Early From Prison

Jennifer Shah, the former “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star who in 2023 was sentenced to more than six years in prison for fraud, was released on Wednesday, several years earlier than expected.

A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons said in a statement that Shah had been transferred from federal prison in Bryan, Texas, to either home confinement or a halfway house. The spokesman said the bureau could not discuss the conditions of Shah’s confinement or her specific location because of privacy and safety reasons.

The confinement is scheduled to conclude in August 2026, the statement said.

It was unclear why Shah had been released nearly four years early or if the move had caught her off guard. Representatives for Shah and NBCUniversal, the parent company of Bravo, which airs the “Real Housewives” franchise, did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.

Shah gained fame in 2020 as an original cast member of the “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.” Three years later, she was sentenced to six and half years in prison for her involvement in a telemarketing scheme that defrauded thousands of victims, many of them over the age of 55 who saw their life savings depleted.

According to prosecutors, Shah used the scheme to bankroll her luxurious lifestyle, which included a rented 9,420-square-foot mansion in Park City, Utah; a rented apartment in Midtown Manhattan; and a leased Porsche Panamera.

As the cameras rolled on the show’s second season in 2021, the criminal case against Shah, who maintained her innocence, became central to her story line. Her tagline that season was, “The only thing I’m guilty of is being Shah-mazing.”

But Shah pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing in 2022. At her sentencing, she apologized for her role in the scheme, which prosecutors said had defrauded victims by selling them fake “business services” that promised to help them make money online.

Shah was ordered to pay more than $6 million in restitution and to forfeit $6.5 million and 30 luxury items, including jewelry and designer goods.
