Amanda Seyfried refuses to apologize for calling Charlie Kirk ‘hateful’: ‘Pretty damn factual’

Amanda Seyfried is “not f–king apologizing” for her comments on Charlie Kirk after his shocking murder.

“I mean, for f—ks sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes,” Seyfried, 40, told Who What Wear in an interview published on Wednesday.

“What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course.”

Kirk died on Sept. 10 after he was shot while on stage at Utah Valley University during a stop on his American Comeback Tour. He was 31.

The “Mamma Mia” actress found herself in hot water in September after she called the late political activist “hateful” in a comment on Instagram.

She responded to a post highlighting some of Kirk’s controversial statements about abortion, immigration and black people.

“‘Ask yourself, why is exposing the flaws of MLK’s life and character — something he said we should judge others by — so controversial?’ – Charlie Kirk, January 2024,” the post read.

A comment from Seyfried’s verified Instagram account read, “He was hateful.”

She also re-shared a post to her Instagram Stories seemingly insinuating that Kirk’s death was in some way his comeuppance for his political opinions.

“You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating,” the post said.

At the time, one X user responded to the “Mean Girls” actress’ post, saying, “Amanda seyfried believes Charlie Kirk assassination was justified. Make sure to never see another one of her movies.”

Another X user wrote, “I am not watching any More Movies with Amanda Seyfried SHE IS SPREADING THE LIE THAT CHARLIE Kirk was Hateful She should lose her Job. HAS SHE ACTUALLY WATCHED ANY OF CHARLIE KIRK VIDEOS.”

Shortly after, the actress defended her posts, saying she intended to encourage “spirited discourse” surrounding Kirk’s legacy. Vanessa Granda/ Who What Wear

Shortly after, she defended her posts criticizing Kirk with a follow-up message explaining that she wasn’t intending to “add fuel to the fire,” but wanted to encourage “spirited discourse” on the subject of Kirk’s legacy.

“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”

“No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?” she shared.
