Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem laughed Monday after a reporter asked about reports that President Donald Trump is considering cutting her from the top administration job.
Noem was at a press conference in Tampa, Florida where she handed out checks to $10,000 bonus checks for TSA workers who kept working without pay during the government shutdown — the longest in U.S. history. A reporter off camera during the live-streamed press conference asked about reports that Trump is considering replacing her.
Noem laughed and responded to the question.
“No I don’t have any indication of that. The president is fantastic and I’m very proud every single day to be able to work for him,” she said.
“I will serve at the president’s pleasure, which I’m very grateful to get to do. And he gives me a wonderful opportunity to do a job that matters for the safety of the American people,” she added, ending the press conference shortly after.
Several reports circulated over the weekend that Trump has considered cutting Noem from his cabinet. Noem denied Monday that she had any idea she could be booted from the role.
