Donald Trump’s recent attempt at political “bribery” has backfired, and is now causing the public to see the president’s major weakness, according to a former senior advisor to Obama Sunday.
Dan Pfeiffer, former senior advisor to Obama and current host to Pod Save America, recently predicted a clip featuring Trump will make its way into about a million advertisements to be used against the president and the GOP. Now, Pfeiffer is seizing on the president’s pardon of a Democrat accused of bribery.
Trump this weekend lashed out at Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) after learning that the lawmaker – whom he had pardoned this week following bribery and conspiracy charges – still plans to run for re-election as a Democrat, decrying it as “such a lack of loyalty.” But in doing so, he raised a red flag for political analysts.
Liberal political network MeidasTouch said, “Trump rages that Henry Cuellar didn’t pay him back for a pardon by switching parties, blasting Cuellar for a ‘lack of LOYALTY.’ In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.”
For Pfeiffer, Cuellar being able to pull this off means something even bigger.
“If Trump is getting played by Henry Cuellar, imagine how much people like Putin are taking his lunch money every day,” he wrote on social media Sunday.
