Christian Slater says that concentrating on what really matters most in life is the secret to handling the constant ups and downs of Hollywood.
“Friends [and] family,” he told Page Six exclusively at the 2025 Gotham Awards earlier this week. “I definitely love focusing on my family.”
The “Mr. Robot” alum, 56, who has four kids — Jaden, 26, and Eliana, 24, with ex-wife Ryan Haddon; and Lena, 6, and a son, 1, with wife Brittany Lopez — says that putting his children first keeps his priorities straight.

Telling us that being a father is “wonderful,” he shared, “I know that when I’m at the end of this journey, I’m not going to say, ‘Oh, I wish I had done this. I wish I had done that.’ I’ll be like, ‘I’m so glad I spent all this time with my kids.’”
Slater made his first screen appearance as a teen in the ’80s, and has appeared in a host of movies, including “Heathers,” “True Romance” and “The Name of the Rose.”
He’s also made his mark in television, receiving critical acclaim for playing the title role in cult favorite 2010s series “Mr. Robot,” and most recently appearing in “Dexter: Original Sin.”

“It’s been quite a journey,” he acknowledged of his career. “You know, you really just have to appreciate all the moments as much as possible. Try to stay present, be in the now — and you know, I love what I do, also. So, I feel blessed for that.”
Slater was at the star-studded event — which also drew fellow A-listers Jacob Elordi, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence — for his role in the critically acclaimed movie, “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”
“Rose Byrne plays a mom who’s struggling with her sick daughter,” he explained of the film’s plot. “I play the husband, who’s a little bit absent.”
The film also features Conan O’Brien and A$AP Rocky.
