Kim Kardashian says bar exam failure broke her ‘confidence’ — and why she went public with results

Kim Kardashian admitted that her failure to pass the State Bar of California exam broke her “confidence.”

Speaking to TIME Magazine on Thursday, the aspiring lawyer revealed why she went public with her results — even though they weren’t what she’d hoped for.

“I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn’t feel good about it. I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while,” Kardashian, 45, said.

“You get the results on a Friday, and I knew Sunday morning they were going to be live on the internet. So I wanted to mention it first and let people know that it didn’t go my way.”

She admitted that failing “really sucks” because she spent so much time studying and knew what she “can do better.”

“I’m pretty good at taking a failure and turning it into something and I just don’t have the time to dwell,” she added.

“You can feel sorry for yourself for a second, but I need to take that time and put it into studying more.”

On Nov. 8, Kardashian revealed she had failed the bar exam.

“Well… I’m not a lawyer yet,” she wrote in an Instagram Story before quipping of her role on Hulu’s All’s Fair, “I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.”

“Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination,” she assured before thanking her loved ones and fans for their support.

“Falling short isn’t a failure — It’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivates me even more. Let’s Go!!!!!”

Despite her positive outlook on the results, Kardashian displayed her angerin a TikTok video a few days later.

While getting glammed up for her mom Kris Jenner’s 70th bash, she vented to her sisters, “I’m just letting you guys know that all the f–king psyhics we have met with and are obsessed with are all f–king full of s–t because they all collectively, maybe four of them, told me I was gonna pass the bar.”

“So they’re all full pathological liars,” she continued, advising her loved ones not to “believe a word they say.”

In a 2019 interview with Vogue, the Skims founder announced she was studying law.

She told the outlet she was inspired to become a lawyer after “seeing a really good result” with Alice Marie Johnson, the prisoner she helped release the year prior.

Since then, the “Kardashians” star has been open about how difficult it’s been to become an attorney — a career her dad, Robert Kardashian Sr., also pursued.

Kim — who obtained her law degree in May 2025 — failed the “baby bar” three times before finally getting a passing grade in 2021.
