FBI insiders revealed on Wednesday that they are being pressured by officials to open an investigation into six Democratic lawmakers who created a video that seemed to make President Donald Trump furious, according to a new report.
Bloomberg Law reported on Wednesday, citing three sources familiar with the matter, that FBI agents in the bureau’s domestic terrorism unit are being pressured by officials in Washington to investigate the Democratic lawmakers who made a video telling military members they do not have to follow illegal orders.
Thus far, leaders within the Washington office have pushed back, according to the report. One of the supervisors “cited a lack of legal and factual basis to initiate a criminal case,” it added.
“A final FBI decision on whether to launch a formal criminal investigation into the six lawmakers hasn’t been made, added the individuals, who spoke anonymously out of fear of reprisal,” the report reads.
Six Democratic lawmakers created a video before Thanksgiving telling military members that they do not have to follow illegal orders. Trump described the video as “seditious behavior” and suggested the act could be punished by death. Lawmakers who participated in the video, like Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), have reported facing increased security risks following Trump’s threats.
