Political observers and analysts bashed a strange prediction SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk made during a reunion of the Department of Government Efficiency in Texas on Tuesday.
Musk appeared via video at the DOGE meet-up, where he predicted the country was in the midst of a “great 12-year span” of the second Trump administration, followed by two consecutive terms for a future JD Vance administration, according to a report by Politico. The event occurred on Nov. 22 in Balstrop, Texas, near the locations of Musk’s SpaceX and Boring Company’s sites, the report added.
President Donald Trump has openly suggested that he considered running for a third term, going so far as to sell “Trump 2028” merchandise to his supporters. Presidents are prohibited from serving more than two terms under the 22nd Amendment, but some Trump allies have said they plan to challenge that law to allow Trump to run again.
Political analysts and observers reacted to Politico’s report on social media.
“12 years of presidential rule by the same party are increasingly rare, with Reagan-Bush from 1981-1993 the last instance,” political scientist David Darmofal posted on Bluesky. “Sure, Musk could maybe turn his algorithmic disinformation machine on full blast to produce a Trump-Vance-Vance reign, but seems unlikely. Dude needs to learn about America.”
“Hell. No. No,” political organizer Melissa Byrne posted on X.
“Because he has been so right about so many things why not interview him again?” historian Claire Potter posted on X.
“He also predicted $2 trillion in savings from DOGE. How’d that work out?” The Lincoln Project posted on X.
“Well, he would know. He bought the last election,” author Mark Russell posted on X.
