NJ cop Rebecca Sayegh forfeits job for attacking ex-boyfriend, his new girlfriend in home invasion

A New Jersey cop who went on a destructive rampage at her ex-boyfriend’s home and attacked him and his new girlfriend is barred for life from ever working in law enforcement in the Garden State.

Ex-Toms River Police Officer Rebecca Sayegh, 32, pleaded guilty to burglary, criminal mischief and simple assault on Nov. 17, after breaking into her ex’s Berkeley house in April, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

As part of her guilty plea, Sayegh has also formally forfeited her gig with the Toms River Township Police Department and “all future public employment in the State of New Jersey.”

Sayegh had been suspended without pay before November’s decision.

Prosecutors are now seeking that she serve 180 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of her probation, that she have no contact with the victims, and that she pay restitution, according to prosecutors.

Sayegh’s guilty plea stems from the violent rampage in which she used her baton to smash through the front door of her ex-boyfriend’s home around 11:20 p.m. on April 25, confronting him and his new girlfriend, who was also at the home, NJ.com reported.

The off-duty cop — who once shared the home with her ex-boyfriend of five years — got into an argument with the pair before shoving and pushing both of them.

During the dispute, the victims attempted to restrain Sayegh, but she broke free, smashed items around the home and damaged the hood of one victim’s car, according to prosecutors.

As Sayegh continued on her chaotic rampage, the new girlfriend retreated into the backyard, where she called 911.

Sayegh also attempted to fight with responding officers and resisted arrest.

After police finally restrained her, she threatened to burn down her ex-boyfriend’s house as they walked her down the driveway, NJ.com reported.

The ex-cop racked up roughly $2,000 in damage to the home and an additional $500 to one of the victim’s cars, the outlet reported, citing prosecutors.

Despite the arrest, Sayegh was released from the Ocean County Jail under New Jersey’s bail reform system.

She was additionally suspended without pay from the Toms River Township Police Department following nine years on the force.

She is expected to face sentencing on Jan. 26, 2026.

Sayegh’s guilty plea comes after she filed a lawsuit against the department and township last year, claiming former Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little and other superiors within the department sexually harassed her and denied her promotions because of her gender.
