A woman has appeared in court charged with walking the “wrong way” on a railway station escalator.

Michaela Copeland, 32, was charged with “walking on an escalator in the wrong direction” on the TFL regional railway network in Greenwich on Nov. 27.

It is alleged Copeland “used or attempted to use an escalator other than by standing or walking on it in the direction intended for travel.”

It is not known whether she allegedly tried to go up the down escalator or down the up moving staircase.

Railway byelaws make it an offence to walk on an escalator in the wrong direction.

Anyone in breach of the law can be fined up to $1,300.

Copeland appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on November 28, where she pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Copeland, from Bermondsey, south east London, was pictured outside court using crutches.

A trial, estimated to take three hours, will now take place in April.
