‘He’s hiding something’: Top Senate Dem delivers grim prediction on ‘known liar’ Hegseth

The Senate’s top Democrat scorched Defense Secretary Pete Hegsethduring an interview on CNN on Monday evening after the secretary attempted to obfuscate his involvement in the Trump administration’s strikes on alleged drug boats in international waters.

Recent reporting from The Washington Post revealed that Hegseth told officials to “kill them all” when asked what should be done to people who have survived the strikes. Hegseth has said the report has “no validity,” but several lawmakers have criticized Hegseth’s response.

Sen. Chuck Schumer(D-NY) discussed the story on CNN’s “The Lead” with Jake Tapper.

“Hegseth is hiding something here, and he’s known to be a liar,” Schumer said. “He said that the Washington Post story had no validity. And today, the White House directly contradicted him, that it did.”

Schumer added that the Defense Department likely has a recording of Hegseth’s order and called on the Defense Secretary to release it.

“And if he has nothing to hide, if he said he did nothing wrong, if he said no laws were violated, release the tapes,” Schumer said. “That’s the first step. And second, we need to bring top military brass before the committees to testify as to what they knew happened and how it happened.”
