Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), a steadfast MAGA ally, took to X on Monday to publicly chew out House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), claiming that he is doing the bidding of “the deep state.”
Her gripe is that the rest of the GOP leadership is failing to advance a provision she wrote requiring disclosure to Congress of any FBI counterintelligence investigation that involves federal or presidential candidates — a provision aimed squarely at trying to stymie future investigations like the one into President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia in 2016.
“In a March 2017 open hearing, my questions to former FBI Director James Comey began the unraveling of the Russia Hoax when Comey admitted to not following proper notification procedures with his illegal opening of Crossfire Hurricane,” said Stefanik. “A criminal act that can never happen again. My provision will strengthen this accountability and transparency to deter this illegal weaponization and it passed out of the House Intelligence Committee in this Congress and previous ones. Yet House Republicans continue to get rolled by the deep state due to opposition by Jamie Raskin.”
“If Republicans can’t deliver accountability and legislative fixes to arguably the biggest illegal corruption and government weaponization issue of all time, then what are we even doing?” Stefanik wrote, warning that she is a “HARD NO” on defense and intelligence authorization bills going forward without her provision included.
Contrary to her claims, the Russia investigation was not a “hoax” and extensively documented contact and interference on behalf of Trump’s election campaign by the Russian government in 2016.
Stefanik, who was briefly considered for a nomination as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations before being withdrawn over fears a special election could leave her seat vulnerable, is now running for governor of New York.
