After an action-packed Saturday, the ever-changing College Football Playoff picture took yet another massive shift.
Two teams that seemed to be trending in the right direction were No. 12 Miami and No. 19 Vanderbilt. The Hurricanes closed out conference play with a 38-7 win over No. 22 Pittsburgh. Vandy took care of in-state rival, Tennessee, defeating the Vols 45-24.
Both of these games took place in the early portion of Week 14, with Miami’s game starting at noon and the Commodores-Vols contest at 3:30 p.m. ET.
As of Saturday midday, the Hurricanes had +150 odds to make the CFP, with Vandy slightly behind at +350.
Over the course of 24 hours, oddsmakers have made a considerable shift for both Power 5 hopefuls.
Miami odds to make playoff Saturday at 3:30: +150 Sunday morning: +820 JMU odds to make playoff: Saturday at 3:30: +1260 Sunday morning: +138 Vandy odds to make playoff: Saturday at 3:30: +350 Sunday morning: +4000

That’s right, the Dukes of James Madison now have better odds to make the playoffs over Miami and Vanderbilt. A stunning development, largely due to the top five conference champions’ distinctions.
Essentially, the five highest-ranked conference title winners by the CFP selection committee automatically gain entry into the 12-team CFP field, no matter where they rank within the committee’s top 25.
In this case, a non-top-25 team like JMU, with an 11-1 record, can crash the party if it beats 8-4 Troy in its Sun Belt championship showdown.
But wait, there’s more.

With No. 21 SMU falling to Cal in the late window, the 7-5 Duke Blue Devils clinched a spot in the ACC conference title game. That’s right, the Blue Devils will play Virginia for the right to be in the CFP, due to an unfathomable five-way tie for second in the ACC.
There’s a real chance the CFB Playoff could feature 2 GO5 teams. • 7-5 Duke wins the ACC Title • Tulane wins the American • JMU wins the Sun Belt Tulane and JMU would make it, and the ACC wouldn’t get an auto bid.. https://t.co/DcpuS9Pa1z
