‘Trump did not write this’: President sparks suspicion over odd social media post

President Donald Trump made a rare social media post on X Friday in support of a conservative candidate running for president, but his language in the post – along with the rare outing on X instead of his own social media platform Truth Social – has left many wondering if Trump actually wrote the post himself.

“Democracy is on trial in the coming Elections in the beautiful country of Honduras on November 30th,” reads the social media post published Friday on Trump’s official X account.

“Will [Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro and his Narcoterrorists take over another country like they have taken over Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela? The man who is standing up for Democracy, and fighting against Maduro, is Tito Asfura, the Presidential Candidate of the National Party.”

The post goes on to call on Hondurans to support Asfura, a member of the conservative National Party who was previously indicted on embezzlement charges after allegedly redirecting 28 million lempiras – the equivalent of more than $1 million – for his “personal benefit,” though the charges were later dropped.

It was the lack of grammatical errors and specific language used in the post, however, that led many critics to question its legitimacy.

“‘Democracy is on Trial’ – yea, Trump didn’t write this. This is [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio stealing this account to shill for his asset in the Honduras election,” wrote X user “Stellar Man,” a political commentator who’s amassed nearly 15,000 followers.

“Trying his hardest to turn all of South America into good little client slaves of the United States. Cuba will be next after Venezuela.”

The Trump administration has escalated tensions with Venezuela in recent months, launching strikes on suspected drug-carrying vessels, deploying an aircraft carrier strikes group to Venezuela’s coast, and considering plans to outright assassinate Maduro. As recently as Thursday, Trump openly suggested that land operations would begin “very soon” in Venezuela.

Rubio is among the more hawkish members of the Trump administration, with reports suggesting that he was the chief driver of Trump’s aggressive moves against Venezuela.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller is also among the more hawkish members of Trump’s administration, and couldn’t help but note Venezuela’s “rich resources and reserves” when calling for regime change in the South American nation.

“You can always tell which tweets are written by Stephen Miller,” wrote X user “Sam Alberti,” another political commentator that’s amassed nearly 5,000 followers.

Other critics fixated on Trump’s apparent effort to influence the results of the Honduran election, something he’s condemned in the past.

“So….. does this count as a sitting American president directly interfering in another country’s elections?” asked X user “Sriram,” whose profile says they’re a senior editor at the Delhi Defense Review, which provides security news from India.
