The Trump administration has found itself “on the wrong track,” with the Democrats pulling ahead for the first time in polls this term, according to new reporting.
Trump’s decline in polling has been seen across the board, with even Fox News turning on the president as people feel the crunch of the cost-of-living crisis. Grim polling figures were shared by McLaughlin and Associates ahead of the midterms next year, with the Democrats ahead of the GOP. The generic congressional ballot is now led by the Dems 45% to the Republican’s 44%.
Pollsters now predict the Democrats will regain control of Congress in next year’s midterms, The Daily Beast reported. 1,000 Americans surveyed by the McLaughlin poll found not only that the Trump administration is “on the wrong track” but that the Dems hold a real advantage in swing states.
It comes as Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, warns that even the president’s preferred Fox News poll has him falling well short of expectations amid his voter base.
She said, “Donald’s poll numbers are abysmal. He is polling horribly in multiple surveys across a wide range of audiences. I want to start with the numbers that hurt him the most, those of Fox State TV. Now, to be fair, Fox is an awful, awful media outlet, however, its polls are rock solid, which makes it even worse for Donald.”
Trump was handed a “negative” rating from his own political base on Fox News. On a poll for how people feel about their personal financial situation, 60% said they are in a “fair or poor” situation. It’s the same number of Americans who said their financial situation was “poor or fair” in March 2025.
The US economy also has people worried, according to the Fox News poll, with 76% of those polled saying the condition of the economy is “poor or fair”. A third poll on overall economic conditions had just 25% of people believe the nation’s economy was in good shape.
It’s not the first negative milestone Trump has hit this week either, with polls showing an average disapproval rating of 55%. Jordan King wrote, “A new poll by J.L. Partners, conducted between November 19 and 20 on 1,244 registered voters, found that 49 percent disapproved of Trump, while 41 percent approved.”
