A key MAGA ally of President Donald Trump called on an activist in charge of a nonprofit that helps with Afghan resettlement to be hauled into Congress for an investigation, after the D.C. shooting of two National Guard troops allegedly by an Afghan on a special immigrant visa for his work assisting the U.S. military.
“Our hearts go out to the brave guardsmen attacked today,” stated Shawn VanDiver of the AfghanEvac nonprofit in a post to X on Thursday. “We will not let the action of one deranged a—— be the excuse used to cause harm to an entire community of people.”
But Laura Loomer, a multiple-time failed congressional candidate and self-described “proud Islamophobe” who is so close to Trump that her rants against various administration officials have gotten them fired, seized the moment to demand VanDiver and his entire organization face a full-bore investigation.
“This guy needs to be criminally investigated,” wrote Loomer. “He should be dragged before Congress and interrogated over why he’s helping Islamic invaders flood America. @shawnjvandiver something tells me you have a lot of skeletons to hide…”
The ambush attack was allegedly carried out by 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who was reportedly part of an elite unit that helped the U.S. military and CIA with security in the final days of the Afghanistan war.
Current reporting suggests he was first brought to the United States in 2021 under the Biden administration, then granted asylum officially in April 2025 under the Trump administration.
