White House responds after 2 National Guard troops shot

The White House released a statement on Wednesday after a shooting involving multiple people, including two National Guard members.

“The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation. The President has been briefed,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

The White House has remained on lockdown during the investigation. The shooting happened about a block from the White House, according to CNN.

At least one person was taken into custody, CNN reported. It’s unclear if it was a deliberate attack; the investigation was developing.

President Donald Trump was in Florida, where he planned to celebrate Thanksgiving.
