A MAGA influencer suggested during a podcast episode on Wednesday that the left may be responsible for the shooting of two National Guard troops near the White House.
Benny Johnson, who hosts “The Benny Johnson Show,” said during a new podcast episode on Wednesday that the backlash to President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to protect immigration officers could have inspired the attack. Reports have said the shooting appeared to be targeted.
“Infuriating that this is happening on the streets of our nation’s capital,” Johnson said. “Democrats are insurrectionists.”
“I’m not going to jump to conclusions as to who or what, but these things tend to have patterns to them,” he continued. “And as we’ve seen, the left has become increasingly and obscenely violent. And they have lashed out against the National Guard in Washington, DC., and they’ve lashed out against the deployment of federal troops throughout the country to clamp down on crime.”
Republicans have sought to blame Democrats for several high-profile incidents of political violence, even in instances where little evidence.
One recent example is the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Vice President JD Vance was quick to blame “left-wing extremism” for the shooting, even though authorities had found “no evidence” to support that claim, according to reports.
