‘Are you sure that’s a good idea?’ GOP questioned as Trump takes on new global power

A political commentator has hit out at the president for “making it up as he goes along” when it comes to policies.

Donald Trump’s administration has struggled to adapt to healthcare woes and an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, both issues splitting the party Trump’s supporter base. Max Burns, opinion contributor at The Hill, believes Trump has “totally checked out” and is coasting through his second term without considering the consequences this will have on people.

Pointing to the White House plan to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, Burns says the Trump administration has no real tactic in mind. He wrote, “Nowhere is that clearer than in Trump’s recent effort to jam through a Russia-Ukraine peace deal so poorly structured that even congressional Republicans balked at the thought of attaching their names to it.”

“The White House abandoned the plan within days — yet another indicator that Trump is now simply making things up as he goes along, with little interest in whether his plans succeed or even make sense. This is the same man congressional Republicans have effectively invested with the unappealable power to wage war against Venezuela for any reason he chooses. Are you sure that’s a good idea, guys?”

Burns went on to suggest Trump simply “doesn’t care about doing his job” and that the splits within the GOP are not just because of disagreements on policy, but because of the president’s “apathy” to his position of power.

The columnist added, “America has suffered through bad presidents before, but we’ve rarely been cursed with a president who simply doesn’t care about doing the job. Trump’s overwhelming apathy has created power vacuums across every part of our government, and his band of grifting loyalists are rushing in to steal what they can while the boss is clocked out.”

“This isn’t a model of effective government, it’s a blueprint for collapse. What a perfect description for the vapid, lazy mess Trump’s MAGA agenda has become.”

Trump remains an unpredictable president in his second term, with insiders reportedly shocked to find he had warmed to New York City mayoral elect, Zohran Mamdani. The meeting between the democratic socialist and president went surprisingly well for the soon-to-be NYC mayor.

But for Trump, Michael Wolff says it couldn’t have gone worse. Wolff suggested the president’s plan had been to be tough but instead Trump looked as though he was won over by the Democratic socialist during their Oval Office press conference.

The slip up from Trump, who had reportedly been set to be tough on Mamdani only to say he and the NYC mayoral elect agreed on several issues, has made some insiders “shiver”, The Daily Beast reported.
