The White House postponed the unveiling of President Donald Trump‘s health care plan on Monday.
The new proposal, which is not final and could change, is expected to offer a temporary extension of subsidies, restore an income cap, offer a monthly premium for enrollees and health savings plan for lower-tier plans, CNN reported.
It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted the delay.
With Affordable Care Act subsidies expected to expire, Republican and Democrat lawmakers have been at odds on how to take the next steps to keep health care affordable — a major point of contention that led to the more than 40-day government shutdown.
“It’s a little worrying the Republican Congress pushed back so much they basically delayed the proposal and they’re just kicking the can down the road one more time,” Zack Cooper, professor of Health Policy at Yale University, told CNN.
Hospitals are buying out other hospitals, buying out doctors, and prompting the rise of health care costs, Cooper added, saying that potential bipartisan reforms could take some pressure off the American public, calling it a serious source of frustration for more than 20 million people facing rising insurance premium costs.
