Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced Friday evening that she will resign from Congress, with her last day set for Jan. 5.
In a statement, Greene said she has “always represented the common American man and woman,” but criticized Washington, D.C., for being “completely unserious.”
“I’m going back to the people that I love to live my life to the fullest as I always have and I look forward to a new path ahead,” Greene said in a video message posted to her X account. “I’ll be resigning from office with my last day being January 5, 2026, and I look forward to seeing many of you again sometime in the future.”
The resignation follows escalating tensions with President Donald Trump and her recent breaks from the Republican Party.
“This is a big shocker,” CNN political analyst Shermichael Singleton said Friday. Greene represents Georgia’s 14th congressional district.
