‘We can’t keep up’: Business owner bashes ‘toll’ of Trump’s economy

A Hispanic business owner in Las Vegas bashed President Donald Trump’s economy, saying that it is shaping up for a “very scary” future because of Trump’s tariffs.

Matt Payan, who owns the North 5th Street Brewing Co. in Las Vegas, told NBC News that Trump’s tariffs have forced the company to scale back its production because of material cost increases. He added that the costs are taking “a real toll” on the local community.

“The canning prices went up so high, we can’t keep up with that cost,” Payan said. “So unfortunately, we can’t can as much as we really should to keep up with demand.”

Trump has recently backed off on certain tariffs on beef and coffee as he seeks to dull the impact of his signature economic policy.

However, Payan and others say the pain of the tariffs is already becoming difficult to bear.

“The cost of living has been a real toll on all of us, including our employees as well,” Payan added. “As demand and cost get higher, our employees need to make more money in order to just survive. Also, the average patron that comes in is now dealing with a higher cost of living, which means our regulars tend to shy away, because now they have to save and use their resources for other important needs.”
