The House Ethics Committee announced on Wednesday that it has opened an investigation into Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) over several issues, according to a new report.
Max Cohen, congressional reporter for Punchbowl News, posted on X that the committee is investigating Mills for alleged campaign finance violations, failing to properly disclose certain information to the House of Representatives, potentially accepting improper gifts, unprofessional conduct, and misusing government resources.
The allegations stem from a report in May that indicated Mills may have illegally entered into contracts with government entities.
“Many key witnesses, including Rep. Mills, refused to cooperate with this review,” the Office of Congressional Ethics, or OCE, said at the time, according to reports. “This concerted effort to limit OCE’s access to relevant information, often from witnesses also represented by Rep. Mills’ attorney, undermined these investigative efforts.”
“The Committee notes that the mere fact of establishing an Investigative Subcommittee does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred,” The Ethics Committee said in its announcement of the investigation.
