President Donald Trump’s attack on Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) late wife incensed one analyst on Sunday, who described the attacks as “repulsive” and “grotesque.”
In October, Massie announced he had remarried after his previous wife passed away in June 2024. On November 14, Trump appeared to attack Massie’s late wife in a Truth Social post, saying, “Boy, that was quick,” even though the wedding was about 16 months after she died.
“His wife will soon find out that she’s stuck with a LOSER!” Trump added.
Sam Stein and Jack Cocchiarella of The Bulwark discussed Trump’s attacks on a new episode of “The Bulwark Takes” podcast on Sunday.
“Honestly, like it’s just a horrible thing to do and say,” Stein said. “The man was married for 30 years. His wife tragically passed. He is remarried. You are allowed to remarry.”
“Actual MAGAs online found this repulsive,” Stein added. “The people were commenting all over the weekend, and we can get into the larger issue here about what’s happening in this moment, but this one particularly really repulsed a lot of folks.”
“I know Trump has said millions of horrible things about people all the time,” he continued. “They’ll all come running back to the guy, but I think a lot of people found this viscerally grotesque and rightfully so. You don’t go after a dude who tragically lost his wife.”
