Trump says staunch ally Greene has ‘lost her way’

Simmering tension between President Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) burst into public view on Monday after the president said the “Make America Great Again” loyalist has “lost her way” and accused her of catering to “the other side.”

Trump’s reproach of the congresswoman came in response to a reporter’s question about Greene’s social media post earlier in the day that accused the president of focusing heavily on foreign affairs rather than domestic issues.

“I don’t know what happened to Marjorie. She’s a nice woman, but I don’t know what happened. She’s lost her way, I think,” Trump said while taking questions in the Oval Office.

The president then accused Greene of “now catering to the other side,” seemingly a reference to the Democratic Party.

“I guess she’s, you know, got some kind of act going, but I’m surprised at her,” he continued. “When somebody like Marjorie goes over and starts making statements like that, it shows she doesn’t know.”

Greene criticized Trump ahead of his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House, pointing to the “persecution” of Christians and minority groups in Syria since December.

“I would really like to see nonstop meetings at the WH on domestic policy not foreign policy and foreign country’s leaders,” she wrote on social media. “Start by hauling in the health insurance company’s executives and let’s start formulating our Republican plan to save America from Obamacare and ACA tax credits that have skyrocketed the cost of health insurance!”

Greene has become an outspoken critic of her Republican colleagues in recent weeks, skewering her party for rising health care costs and a perceived “failure” to provide an alternative health care plan to the Affordable Care Act.

During media appearances on talk shows such as ABC’s “The View” and HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” — where hosts have often criticized the Republican Party — the congresswoman blasted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and his government shutdown strategy, siding with Democrats to call for extensions to health care subsidies, and urged the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which Johnson and Trump’s administration oppose.

She also made headlines last week when she offered rare Republican praise of former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (California) after the longtime Democratic leader announced she would not run for reelection in 2026. In a CNN interview, Greene said that she was “very impressed” with Pelosi’s “ability to get things done,” and that she wished the GOP “could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party.”

When asked about Trump’s Oval Office criticism of her, Greene said in a statement to The Washington Post, “I haven’t lost my way. I’m 100% America first and only!”
