Former President Donald Trump said that his campaign raised $139 million in July, celebrating the “spectacular support” from voters as November’s election inches closer.
In a post to Truth Social Thursday evening, Trump wrote: “There has never been anything like the MAGA Movement,” adding that the campaign donations raised in July elevated his team’s cash on hand to “a whopping $327 million” heading into August.
“Spectacular support from Great American Patriots who are donating to our Campaign for President of the United States, and helping out in many other ways,” read Trump’s post. “Much work to be done, but I will always keep fighting for YOU. Our Country is failing, but we will turn it around, quickly, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s July donations, however, amounted to $61 million less than Vice President Kamala Harris‘ haul in her first week in the presidential race. Her campaign reported that it brought in $200 million over its first seven days, and that 66 percent of the donations came from first-time contributors who had not donated yet in the 2024 election cycle.
CNN political commentator Van Jones reacted to Harris outraising Trump during an appearance on CNN‘s The Situation Room Thursday, saying that it was “Kamala-mania.”
“Just energy, energy, energy,” Jones added. “People are excited about Kamala Harris. It shows up in the numbers, it shows up in the polls.”
Newsweek reached out to Trump and Harris’ campaigns via email for comment Thursday night.
The Associated Press reported that from April to June, Trump’s team raised $331 million, meaning that the donations garnered in July were ahead of that pace.
On top of hosting campaign events across the country last month, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, just days before he would accept the Republican National Committee’s official nomination for president and announce his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
Trump returned to Pennsylvania on Wednesday for the first time since the shooting, which left him with an injury on the tip of his right ear. The former president started his speech at the rally talking about the assassination attempt and holding a moment of silence for firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was killed by gunfire at the rally.
The rest of the speech was largely focused on Harris, whom Trump called a “radical left puppet candidate who is fake fake fake,” as reported by Newsweek’s Monica Sager.
Sager, who attended the event, also reported that several spectators began leaving the venue about an hour into Trump’s speech.
