A freeway crash that took place in Sherman Oaks early Saturday morning left at least one person dead, authorities say.

California Highway Patrol officials confirmed to KTLA that units were dispatched to the northbound 405 Freeway, just north of the 101 Freeway interchange, at 3:28 a.m. on reports of a traffic collision.

When the officers arrived alongside paramedics, they found that one person had died at the scene. No details surrounding their identity, including their age and gender, were released.

It was not known right away if anyone was injured in the crash. Video from the scene taken by KTLA photojournalist John Neis shows that one of the vehicles that crashed ended up facing the opposite direction of traffic.

A full freeway closure was announced about 20 minutes after the crash that affected the 101 Freeway transition routes to the 405, both of which were shut down, CHP said.

By 8:10 a.m., the scene had been cleared and the 405 was reopened.

The cause of the collision has not been determined; however, officials told KTLA there is no indication that anyone involved was driving the wrong way down the freeway.

Sofia Pop Perez, Luis Zuñiga and KTLA photojournalist John Neis contributed to this report.
