TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) — At least one hundred people showed up to the Colbert County Courthouse on Friday morning for a march and protest for August Borden.
Signs, T-shirts and a chant were the scene at the Colbert County Courthouse Friday morning.
“Justice for August, justice for August!” several people shouted.
Several people wearing yellow and protesting in support of 15 year old August Borden.
Gene Ann Terry Prince, has been a long time supporter of August Borden.
“I am here to show support for August Borden and his family, to try and ensure that justice is served for August,” Prince said.
The Madison County DA’s Office closed its investigation into August Borden’s injuries a few weeks ago, deeming the incident a freak accident. But people out marching on Friday still want to see the criminal justice system play a role in this case.
“A 34-day investigation is not enough, August Borden will be recovering from his injuries for years to come,” Prince said.
The march started at the Colbert County Courthouse and made its way to downtown Tuscumbia.
Ryli Lind, August Borden’s cousin, was marching.
“I’m here because we just want the truth, and we want accountability, whatever that outcome is I think that transparency is super important and there has been a huge lack of transparency from the school from the DA, and from everyone involved,” Lind said.
News 19 spoke with Karleigh Hogeland, a current Deshler High School sophomore, who was at the march and says the hallways at school have been different.
“It’s awkward, you got some that are pulling for the opposite side and a few pulling for the correct side but you can’t tell people what they can and can’t do,” Hogeland said.
Prince tells News 19’s Whitney Leibold they will continue to push for further clarity.
“We are going to fight and fight and fight for August #37,” Prince said.
Prince also mentioned that she is selling yellow ribbons that are $10 each; all funds go to August Borden.
