A new day means a new Connections brainteaser, and Newsweek‘s hints should help get you across the finish line.
The New York Times‘ game was launched in June 2023 and has since gained a loyal following. Today, Connections is the outlet’s second-most-played game behind Wordle, another popular word-based puzzle.
Wyna Liu, a puzzle editor at the NYT who creates the daily Connections games, told Newsweek last year that the key to solving the brainteaser is not to “rage solve.”
Instead, Liu said “to wait as long as you can before guessing,” adding, “You may see the board and have completely identified the category, seeing five words that could belong in that category.”
In 2020, Liu said what she enjoys most about making puzzles in an interview with The New York Times.
“I absolutely love making grids and do this for hours at a time. Sometimes, I’ll procrastinate on a grid by starting another grid,” she said. “There’s also the hope that someone might enjoy solving my puzzle the way I’ve enjoyed solving other constructors’ puzzles over the years.”

How To Play ‘Connections’
The idea of the game is to find common threads in a set of 16 words. Players must categorize the terms into four groups of four, though there is no time limit to complete the brainteaser.
The categories differ in difficulty—those in the yellow category are considered the easiest to solve, followed by green, blue and then purple.
For example, Wednesday’s puzzle linked the words “dash,” “hyphen,” “minus” and “underscore” with the blue category: “Made with horizontal lines.”
The purple category, meanwhile, was a tricky one. The category was, “Simpson family members with first letter changed,” and the words associated with it were: “Baggie,” “Barge,” “Comer,” and “Pisa.”
