A California man’s trip to the slopes for some winter fun has ended in tragedy after being killed in a skiing accident at a resort in greater North Lake Tahoe.

Stuart McLaughlin, 53, of Hillsborough in the Bay Area, was killed on Sunday at the Northstar Ski Resort in Truckee.

Placer County Sheriff’s office told The California Post that authorities “responded to a fatal skiing accident” at the resort at 11:30 am on Sunday, Feb. 15.

A representative from the resort told ABC7 Eyewitness News that McLaughlin was killed in an accident with another skier while the two were on one of the resort’s advanced trails.

The other skier was transported to the hospital.

“We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones,” a statement from the sheriff’s office read.

The fatal accident is the second one to happen in a week following the death of a Los Angeles man who had traveled to the North Lake Tahoe resort for a winter adventure and was killed in skiing accident on Feb 11.

The man, who was later identified as 26-year-old Nicholas Kenworthy, was killed while tackling a Black Diamond run on the mountain’s backside — when disaster struck, The California Post reported.

The winter has been absolutely brutal and resulted in more deaths this week near Lake Tahoe, where a group of backcountry skiers were hit by a horrific avalanche, leaving eight of 15 people dead and another missing.

Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon provided the grim update on Wednesday, 24 hours after the avalanche was first reported.

Moon said four travel guides and 11 guests were caught in the avalanche. Among the 15, six had been rescued — one man and five women ages 30 to 55. Moon said eight of the remaining nine are confirmed dead, and one is still missing.
