Dem shreds former Republican leader’s defense of Trump’s latest FBI raid

Things got heated on CNN’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip” on Monday when a former Republican lawmaker and a former aide in the Clinton White House clashed over President Donald Trump’sraid of an election office in Georgia last week.

Trump’s FBI, accompanied by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, raided the Fulton County election hub last week with a warrant to seize all data, physical and digital, from the 2020 general election. Trump has consistently claimed that he won Georgia during the election, even though he felt compelled to call Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and demand that he “find” 11,780 votes.

The raid alarmed election experts and lawmakers. Fulton County Commissioners called the operation an “attack on your vote.” Others have suggested that the raid signals Trump is likely to interfere in the 2026 midterm election.

Joe Borelli, former Republican leader of the New York City Council, defended the raid, arguing that it followed the law as written. A U.S. Attorney in Missouri secured the warrant, which was approved by a federal judge who was not appointed by Trump, he mentioned.

Borelli’s argument didn’t sit well with Keith Boykin, a former Clinton White House aide, who forcefully rebutted several points.

“I read that five-page warrant today, and that warrant relies on an FBI agent who testified that there was evidence of illegal criminal activity that took place in those files,” Boykin said. “There’s no evidence to prove that. That FBI agent is a liar!”

Borelli argued that Boykin was trying to say that the FBI’s testimony “doesn’t matter.”

“My opinion is that was already litigated six years ago!” Boykin said.
