‘Disconnected’ Jelly Roll avoids ICE question post-Grammys 2026, dubs himself a ‘dumb redneck’

Jelly Roll had no comment when asked about ICE in a post-Grammys 2026 interview Sunday.

The country singer quipped that “people shouldn’t care to hear [his] opinion” about “what’s going on in the country right now.”

The songwriter, whose real name is Jason Deford, admitted to being “disconnected” from politics and pointed out that he “didn’t have a phone for 18 months.”

The 41-year-old, who won three Grammy Awards over the weekend, said, “I’m a dumb redneck. Like, I haven’t watched enough.”

He noted, “I grew up in a house of, like, insane pandemonium. Like, I didn’t even know politics were f–king real until I was in my mid-20s in jail. Like, that’s how disconnected [you are] when you grew up in a drug addict household.

“You think we, like, had common calls about what’s happening in rural politics?” Jelly Roll asked. “Like, we’re just trying to find a way to survive, man.”

He did, however, promise to “have a lot to say about” Immigration and Customs Enforcement on social media in the coming days because he “love[s] talking about this stuff.”

The “Need a Favor” artist explained, “I’m going through it the next week, and everybody’s going to hear exactly what I have to say about it in the most loud and clear way I’ve ever spoke in my life. So I look forward to it on the Internet.”

When Jelly Roll defended shaking hands with President Trump at a UFC event in December 2024, he similarly explained on wife Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast that he “didn’t grow up in a voting culture.”

At the time, he said, “I don’t know enough about politics to act like I know anything that’s going on, what anybody’s standing for policy-wise. I genuinely don’t know.”

Jelly Roll, notably, was not one of the many A-listers, from Justin Bieber to Joni Mitchell, who wore “ICE OUT” pins on the red carpet this weekend.

Bad Bunny, Kehlani and more made headlines for blasting the federal agency and praising immigrants throughout the night.

Jelly Roll, for his part, accepted his award for best contemporary country album with a speech claiming “Jesus is for everybody” and “not owned by one political party … [or] music label.”

He told viewers, “There was a moment in my life that all I had was a Bible this big, and a radio the same size, and a six-by-eight-foot cell. … I believe that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life.”

Jelly Roll, who also took home the trophies for best country duo/group performance and best contemporary Christian music performance/song, gave an additional shoutout to his “beautiful” partner.

“I would have never changed my life without you,” he gushed of Bunnie XO while onstage. “I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn’t for you and Jesus. I thank you for that.”

The couple, who have been married since 2016, packed on the PDA walking the red carpet earlier in the evening.
