Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got a direct challenge from a congressman Sunday.
The Democrats this weekend flipped a highly watched seat in deep red Texas, despite Donald Trump’s strong endorsement, in a move that is expected to send shockwaves through the Republican party.
In that contest, Taylor Rehmet, a union leader, prevailed against the Trump-endorsed Republican.
Dem Congressman Ted Lieu, who recently spoke out about a video purportedly showing misconduct by ICE agents, was emboldened by the victory. He chose to take a challenge directly to DeSantis, after seeing GOP redistricting efforts backfire in Texas.
“Dear DeSantis: I dare you to do redistricting in FL,” the Dem lawmaker wrote. “The only way to draw more lean GOP seats is to make existing incumbent GOP congressional districts weaker.”
He added, “Democrat Taylor Rehmet just flipped a ruby red state district in TX in a 30+ point shift,” and concluded with four words:
“See you in November.”
