Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) appears to be yet again fleeing a potential weather crisis in his state after being spotted Tuesday on a flight to the seaside resort city Laguna Beach in California, political strategist Shea Jordan Smith reported, and just ahead of what’s expected to be a “very impactful winter storm.”
“Here we go again,” noted Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff, referencing the senator’s storied history with being abroad on vacation during times of crises in his state.
Back in 2021, Cruz was hammered for fleeing Texas for the Mexican city of Cancun during the state’s deadly winter storm that sparked massive power outages affecting more than 4.5 million homes, and killed at least 246 people, though potentially as many as 702.
While Cruz would attempt to blame his extended vacation on his daughters, Texas critics have continued to condemn the lawmaker for his Cancun vacation years later.
Cruz has also been hammered for having traveled to Jamaica during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and despite public health recommendations to minimize travel.
And last year, Cruz was hammered again for not rushing home from vacation in Athens, Greece following the deadly Texas flood last July that killed at least 135 people. Cruz’s office said that the lawmaker returned to Texas from Greece “as fast as humanly possible” after hearing of the deadly flood, however, flight data revealed that Cruz had delayed his return by at least two days after the incident.
“I wonder if another 8-year-old will freeze to death in his own bed while Senator Wheelie Bag is nice & warm in Laguna Beach,” wrote political commentator Tara Dublin in a social media post on X Wednesday to their more than 110,000 followers. “Also no first class for Trump’s permanent toilet/bidet? Weird!”
