Justification for the killing of 37-year-old mother Renee Good floated by right-wing pundits got to be a too far-fetched for even conservative former CNN anchor Piers Morgan, who bristled at one such attempt on the latest episode of his YouTube show, “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
Morgan discussed Good’s killing by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Jonathan Ross with Nick Shirley, a right-wing YouTuber who shot to fame after making a viral video about fraud in Minneapolis, Tim Miller of “The Bulwark Podcast,” former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, and MAGA lawyer Will Chamberlain during the episode.
At one point, Chamberlain argued that Good’s killing was justified because Ross was acting in self-defense.
“I’m a lawyer. I’ve been trained. I’ve read a lot about the law of self-defense,” Chamberlain said. “This was the most obvious self-defense shoot I’ve seen in quite some time.”
“Really?” Morgan shot back.
“He’s directly in front of the car!” Chamberlain said above the crosstalk.
“She’s barely moving!” Morgan replied.
Good’s killing sparked significant controversy for the Trump administration. Shortly after her killing, the administration sought to label her as a “domestic terrorist” who had been harassing ICE agents. Witness testimony and interviews with Good’s friends and family have undercut those claims.
The administration also claimed that Good had weaponized her car against Ross and other agents. Video captured during the shooting appears to show Good’s car gently bumping into Ross as she’s attempting to drive away, although the contact was not hard enough to send Ross to the ground or prevent him from walking away from the scene.
