Megyn Kelly urges Trump to sue Hillary Clinton over Jan. 6 condemnation

Conservative media personality Megyn Kelly urged President Donald Trump Tuesday to launch a lawsuit against his former presidential opponent Hillary Clinton over an online post she made condemning the president for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Trump was impeached for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and later indicted on criminal charges related to his alleged scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The charges have since been dropped after his election victory in 2024.

On the fifth anniversary of the Capitol attack Tuesday, Clinton took to social media to condemn Trump for having stoked the incident.

“Five years ago today, Donald Trump urged his supporters to attack Congress and the Capitol over a proven lie,” Clinton wrote in a social media post on X. “More than 140 police officers were injured. Trump then pardoned the attackers. He betrayed his oath and his country, and we won’t ever forget it.”

The “Trump War Room” X account, which is officially affiliated with the Trump campaign, attacked Clinton for disabling the ability to reply to her online post, calling her a “coward” and demanding that she “turn on replies.”

Kelly, joining in on the attack on Clinton, offered her own take on Clinton’s remarks, suggesting that they rose to the level of defamation.

“Trump should sue her for this,” Kelly wrote in a social media post on X. “It’s patently untrue (urged his supporters to attack Congress??). The BBC is currently getting sued by Trump for basically the same lie.”

Trump did, in fact, sue the BBC for defamation over allegations that it had deceptively edited a portion of a documentary about the president’s role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump demanded $10 billion in damages, whereas the network said it would defend itself in the case.

During his second term in office, Trump has also sued the New York Times for $15 billion for “disparaging articles,” the Wall Street Journal for its reporting on an alleged letter to Jeffrey Epstein, and the Iowa pollster, the Des Moines Register, for alleged “election interference.”
