A “joyful” and “deeply loved” 6-year-old girl and a 90-year-old man were killed in a horrific car crash on Staten Island Friday morning, according to authorities.
A 50-year-old man driving an Audi Q5 was traveling westbound on Rockland Avenue just before 10:00 a.m. when he attempted to turn left on Forest Hills Road — colliding with a Honda HRV driven by a 70-year-old woman, according to the NYPD.
Emergency responders brought three car occupants, Anheli Vasquez-Trinidad, 6; Gerardo Avila, 90; and the unidentified 70-year-old driver, to Staten Island University North Campus hospital.
Vasquez-Trinidad was pronounced dead on Sunday after succumbing to her injuries, cops said.
Avila also died at the hospital following the brutal crash, police added. The driver is in critical but stable condition. The relationship between the three victims isn’t immediately known.
Vasquez-Trinidad was a “tender” and “playful” child who carried a “light big enough to warm every heart,” according to a GoFundMe for her funeral expenses.
“Anheli was only 6 years old, yet she carried a light big enough to warm every heart around her. She was tender, joyful, playful, and so deeply loved,” a statement on the fundraiser read.
“Losing her has broken us in ways we never imagined. There is an emptiness in our home, in our arms, and in our lives that can never be filled,” the heartbreaking statement continued.
“We were not prepared for this unimaginable pain, nor for the financial burden of giving Anheli the beautiful, dignified farewell she deserves.”
The GoFundMe has raised just over $13,600 to coordinate funeral arrangements and a memorial as a “final act of love” for Trinidad.
The Audi driver, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital in stable condition, authorities added.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
