Questions about Donald Trump’s health grew louder on Friday after a new Truth Social post raised fresh questions about visible bruising on the president’s hands, with at least one analyst saying the White House’s explanation does not add up.
Trump wrote on social media early Friday morning that “The White House Doctors have just reported that I am in “PERFECT HEALTH,” and that I “ACED” (Meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!), for the third straight time, my Cognitive Examination,” which he added “no other President, or previous Vice President, was willing to take.”
But the effort appeared to backfire on the 79-year-old MAGA leader, who has, for years, gone after his 83-year-old predecessor’s health.
“If Trump was trying to assuage concerns, what he posted today is not the way to do it,” progressive podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen said Friday, before asking: “Are people who are in perfect health generally administered weekly cognitive exams?”
The discussion then turned to the visible bruising on Trump’s hands, something the White House has previously attributed to frequent handshaking. Responding to reports that Trump’s doctors have advised him to take less aspirin – advice Trump has allegedly ignored – Cohen pointed out for his listeners the “persistent bruising” on Trump’s hands “that he’s been trying to cover up with makeup and bandages for months.”
But the official explanation, however, is now under scrutiny. Trump has appeared with “discoloration or light bruising on the back of his left hand, in addition to the more persistent bruise on his right hand.” Medical experts, Cohen added, have pointed out that “the discoloration on Trump’s left hand wasn’t likely the result of handshaking, given that Trump is right-handed.”
“So, the White House’s explanation clearly is falling apart,” the Democratic analyst concluded Friday. “Trump is right-handed, but somehow he’s got bruising on both hands from handshaking? Come on.”
Trump will turn 80 on June 14.
