Linda Stevenson, who was married to first lady Jill Biden’s ex-husband Bill Stevenson, was found dead in a Delaware home late Sunday.
Police in New Castle County, Delaware, were called to investigate a “domestic dispute” at the home around 11:15 p.m. that evening. Authorities found Linda, 64, unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene after attempting efforts to revive her.
No charges have been filed in the case. Audio from the police dispatch to the scene mentioned “cardiac arrest,” according to TMZ, which obtained the clip.
Officials said the body has been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where an autopsy will be conducted to find out the cause of death.
The Daily Beast reached out to New Castle County police for comment.
Jill Biden, 74, was married to Bill Stevenson, 77, for five years. The couple separated in 1974, but got legally divorced a year later in 1975. She married former President Joe Biden in 1977.
Bill Stevenson was a one-time supporter of Biden’s political career, claiming to have donated $10,900 in cash to his first campaign for Senate, but he alleged that Jill Biden had an affair with Joe Biden during their marriage.
Stevenson alleges that in 1974, he drove up to New Jersey to pay Bruce Springsteen ahead of his performance at The Stone Balloon, a popular student bar at the University of Delaware that Stevenson founded.
“I asked Jill to go with me and she said no — she had things to do, she had to look after Joe’s kids, Beau and Hunter. It was kind of a big deal to go meet Springsteen. I had no idea she and Joe were that kind of friendly,” he told the Daily Mail in 2020.
“Then one of her best friends told me she thought Joe and Jill were getting a little too close. I was surprised that she came to me,” he added.
Stevenson maintained that his divorce had some positive elements, as he met his now late wife Linda.
“If it wasn’t for my divorce, I would never have met my wife Linda and she’s the greatest thing in my life,” he told the outlet.
In recent years, however, Bill Stevenson had grown critical of his ex-wife as well as the Biden presidency overall. He is a vocal Trump supporter and has referred to his ex-wife’s family as the “Biden crime family.”
Stevenston told The New York Post in 2024 that he could hardly recognize his former partner.
“The Dr. Jill Biden who I’ve seen on TV in the last five years is not the same person I married or that I recognize in any way,” he told the outlet. “She’s matriculated into a completely different woman.”
Stevenson added that he had “no hard feelings” about Jill but was “just surprised to see her front and center in the middle of this battle after flying under the radar for so many years. She’s always been very driven.”
He joined a chorus of critics who accused Jill of forcing her husband to stay in the 2024 presidential race, despite signs of deteriorating health.
“I felt sorry for Joe Biden because I didn’t think she was protecting him,” Journalist Sally Quinn told the Tara Palmeri Show. “She wasn’t protecting him from himself.”
