Mary Trump, the niece of President Donald Trump, revealed during a recent podcast interview that the president is driven by an “obsession” that appears to have infected the GOP.
President Trump has displayed some “completely indecent” behavior recently, according to his niece, including the mind-boggling statement he issued after director Rob Reinerand his wife, Michelle, were murdered in their Los Angeles home. Trump blamed Reiner’s killing on “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a made-up disease Trump uses to demean his critics.
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and author, discussed her uncle’s behavior on a new episode of “The Court of History” that aired on Thursday. She argued that the president is obsessed with being indecent because that’s a trick he’s used for decades to get attention.
“As he is finding out, there will never be enough,” she said. “There will never be enough attention. There will never be enough things named after him. There will never be enough money. There will never be enough grifts. There will never be enough to fill that black hole at the center of who he is on the one hand.”
Mary Trump added that her uncle’s behavior also exposes something rotten at the core of the GOP.
“He is, through his indecency and his increasingly vile behavior, showing us that there are a lot of people in this country, including every single person in his inner circle, every single elected Republican, almost to a person, that there is no line that he can cross to get them to stop supporting him,” she said.
“I think it’s a testament to just how far gone this Republican party is,” she added.
