‘Enormous’ goose barrels through woman’s front door, sending her into a panic thinking it was a thief

Take a gander at this!

An “enormous” Canada goose busted through an English woman’s front door, sending her into panic when she initially mistook the bewildered bird for a would-be thief.

Lynne Sewell and a friend were watching TV Wednesday night when a thunderous bang startled her — and she soon discovered the fowl intruder wedged in the glass of the door to her Leicestershire, home, the BBC reported.

“My friend went out first because I was scared — and he shouted ‘there’s a bird with its head through the glass,’” Sewell said.

“I was scared by the loud bang to start with, and it was enormous. I thought it was probably someone trying to kick the door or something.”

The dazed gander, which left shattered glass scattered across the floor, eventually waddled free and plopped onto her porch, the outlet reported.

The stunned friends called police and animal rescue, but with no one available that late, they made sure to keep the goose comfortable with a blanket and food until morning, hoping it would survive the night.

“We didn’t know if it was alive or dead,” Sewell said.

“We opened the door a bit and pushed a little small blanket in there for it, just in case, and a bowl of water, some porridge oats, because we didn’t know what else to give him. I was thinking about it all night in bed, wondering what to expect the next morning.”

The Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth Harcourt arrived the next morning to scoop up the feathered visitor, which only suffered a few cuts and is expected to return to the wild, the outlet reported.

Rescuer Amy Blower believes the fatigued bird may have tired itself out in flight and misjudged its landing.

“It’s very usual to be in the middle of a housing estate and flying that late at night,” Blower said.

“Surprisingly, he’s just come off with a few minor scrapes and wounds from the glass he’s smashed through. He had a small laceration to his beak and one just on the left side of his body — but other than that, he was pretty much absolutely fine.”

The goose will be released back into the wild after being treated with pain medication and antibiotics.

Sewell has since boarded up her front door and arranged for it to be repaired, but is relieved the befuddled bird will make a full recovery, according to the BBC.

“I really don’t know how it could have gone through that glass and survived,” she said.

“The chances of that happening, it’s just not what you expect, is it?”
