A 14-year-old girl plunged to her death from an elite Upper East Side private school — and police are looking into whether it was a suicide or accidental fall.
The teen was discovered unconscious and unresponsive outside The Chapin School on East End Avenue near East 84th Street when the NYPD responded to a 911 call around 7:35 p.m., Wednesday, the department said.
Her injuries were “indicative of falling from an elevated position,” and she was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was initially listed in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to her injuries, police said.
No criminality was involved in her death, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether she died by suicide or an accidental fall.
Her name was not immediately released, pending family notification.
Representatives from the all-girls’ school could not be reached Thursday morning.
The posh K-12 prep school — founded in 1901 by Maria Bowen Chapin — counts a slew of famous alumni, including former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and presidents’ daughters, such as Ivanka Trump, Julie Nixon Eisenhower and Tricia Nixon Cox.
Tuition and fees at Chapin for the 2025 to 2026 school year currently sit at $68,250, with the school committed to “providing generous financial grants to families,” according to its website.
The tragedy comes about a month after a 16-year-old boy jumped to his death from Regis High School, a private, tuition-free all-boys school, also on the Upper East Side, police said then.
