Trump unveils pardon for MAGA clerk convicted of aiding election security breach

President Donald Trump said in a social media post on Thursday that he is pardoning Tina Peters, a former Colorado county clerk who was convicted of sharing passwords to her county’s election system with unauthorized parties.

Trump announced the pardon on Truth Social, which does not constitute an official pardon. It is unclear whether the administration has applied to the U.S. Pardon Attorney for Peters’ release.

“Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of TINA PETERS, a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our Elections were Fair and Honest,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the ‘crime’ of demanding Honest Elections. Today I am granting Tina a full Pardon for her attempts to expose Voter Fraud in the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election!”

Peters is the latest in a long line of people involved in Trump’s efforts to subvert the 2020 election to receive a pardon or clemency. Trump has also pardoned over 1,500 people who were charged for their actions during Jan. 6, ranging from trespassing to assaulting police officers and threatening to kill lawmakers.

Peters was convicted on seven charges of aiding the security breach of her county’s election system and was sentenced to nine years in prison. Trump has previously attempted to move Peters to a federal facility, but was rebuffed by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat.
