A third federal judge has cleared the way for the release of additional files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
U.S. District Judge Richard Berman issued a four-page ruling Wednesday to order the unsealing of grand jury materials, investigative records, documents and communications gathered in a 2019 investigation into the convicted sex offender by the Department of Justice, reported CBS News.
The Justice Department moved to unseal grand jury materials in cases against Epstein and his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, but those initial requests were denied because of federal rules requiring grand jury proceedings and evidence to remain secret.
However, the Justice Department argued the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed by Congress last month should override grand jury secrecy rules.
The Justice Department has a Dec. 19 deadline to issue certain evidentiary files under the recently passed law.
