‘Idiots’: Trump officials roasted for holding ‘ego contest’ in airport

Two of President Donald Trump’s cabinet secretaries were blasted by political analysts and observers on Monday after they held what one person described as an “ego contest” at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. about a new family travel initiative.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a new initiative on Monday, called the “Make Travel Family Friendly Again” campaign, that puts $1 billion toward facility upgrades for nursing rooms, workout stations, and healthy food options.

After the announcement, Kennedy and Duffy held a pull-up contest near the airport’s security line. Kennedy did 20 pull-ups, and Duffy did 10.

The event garnered pushback from political analysts and observers on social media.

“How much of my money did these two idiots spend today on this nonsense?” Washburn law professor Joseph Mastrosimone posted on X.

“Do you think that closing off part of a busy airport for a pull-up contest is what taxpayers are paying you to do on their dime?” Laura Miller, AFLCIO comms director, posted on X.

“I’d be happy to have them do this 24/7 if they’d let normal people run their departments,” former national security official Brian McKeon posted on X.

“If there’s one thing the airport experience needs, it’s ego contests from Cabinet Secretaries outside of security!” CNN producer DJ Judd posted on X.

“By RFK’s logic, this proves 15 years of heroin use improves chin-up performance,” political analyst John Barron posted on X.
