As Americans increasingly lay blame for rising costs squarely at President Donald Trump’s feet, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to Fox News Tuesday to bash Republicans for not praising the president enough for his accomplishments.
“As President Trump has been screaming from the rooftops, Republicans need to remain tough, and smart, and they need to be more vocal about telling the accomplishment of this administration,” Leavitt told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” Tuesday, The Daily Beast reported.
“Again, inflation has slowed because of President Trump’s economic policies. We see wages for the first time in five years are increasing by about $1,000 per the average American worker.”
Wages have grown under the second Trump administration, but have been outpaced by inflation, setting “back income growth to levels comparable to the slow recovery after the Great Recession,” Reuters reported recently.
Costs for basic needs like groceries, energy and housing have also continued to soar, particularly energy which has surged by 10% in the first half of 2025, due in no small part to the astronomical energy demands of artificial intelligence data centers. Often subsidized by neighboring communities, AI data centers and their development have been a key priority of the Trump administration.
Trump’s war on clean energy is also projected to increase gas prices over the next 10 years due to the Trump administration having axed billions of dollars’ worth of investments in renewable energy sources.
As recently as Tuesday, Trump rated the economy under his leadership “A-plus,” a comment that was ridiculed by critics and highlighted as a potential sound bite for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. Trump has continued to label the term “affordability” as a “con job” and a “fake narrative,” while at the same time, adopting its use in his own messaging.
