Within the past year, President Donald Trump called longtime MAGA ally Michael Flynn, his former national security advisor who supported the president’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election, a “loser,” according to insiders who spoke with Zeteo on Monday.
“One of those sources recalls Trump within the past year saying that Flynn behaves like a ‘loser,’ wrote Zeteo senior political correspondent Swin Suebsaeng in the report.
A retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, Flynn served as Trump’s national security advisor for 22 days during Trump’s first term, resigning amid reports that he had “inappropriately shared” classified material with Afghan military officers. He was also among the leading supporters of Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, having called on Trump to suspend the Constitution and enact marital law to hold an election do-over.
And yet, despite Flynn’s loyalty to Trump – loyalty that saw him grilled by a House committee over his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot – Trump has apparently dismissed the veteran as irrelevant.
Furthermore, the insiders also told Zeteo that when it came to theories promoted among the MAGA base, Trump found many of them to be absurd, despite having promoted many of them over the past decade.
“Both say the president privately agrees that the MAGA conspiracy theorist can be goofy, and comes off as highly unserious and erratic too often,” Suebsaeng wrote.
And when it came to Trump’s dismissal of Flynn, Suebsaeng argued it was illustrative of how disposable Trump’s allies were to him when they’ve outlived their usefulness.
“Let that sink in for a moment: Even Donald J. Trump – a world leader synonymous with erratic cattiness and petty behavior – thinks that about the fellow MAGAworld icon,” Suebsaeng wrote.
“Oh, well! Maybe Flynn will return to a top-tier rank in Trumpland one day. Maybe. After all, this president is one of the most mercurial men in modern global history. For now, the former national security adviser may have to settle for Trump’s Justice Department potentially getting ready to shove millions of dollars in Flynn’s pocket – as a possible payout for his lawsuit against the feds that had previously stalled out in court.”
