Supreme Court’s Trump loyalty finally tested by ‘cut and dried’ Hegseth case: Morning Joe

Using the accusations that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has committed war crimes and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem admitted she defied a court order from a well-regarded conservative judge, MS NOW host Joe Scarborough claimed the Supreme Court now has good reason to rein in the White House.

On Monday, the panel on “Morning Joe” piled on both Hegseth and Noem for weekend boasting that they can do whatever they please, which led Scarborough to build upon comments made by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius about White House lawlessness.

After noting Democratic lawmakers who have been on the receiving end of attacks from the right after they warned military members they have an obligation not to follow illegal orders, Scarborough pointed to the date of a so-called “narco-terrorist” attack that has Hegseth under scrutiny.

“They obviously knew what happened on September 2nd. They understand that there were people reporting that war crimes took place, and now that’s where we find ourselves, and that’s going to be the great debate,” he began. “President Trump belatedly last night saying he had nothing to do with this.”

“The fact is, though, Pete Hegseth seemed to be bragging about it on Friday and Saturday, so we’ll see what happens there,” he continued before proposing, “But the big question to what David’s saying is: does the Roberts court believe what Alexander Hamilton and James Madison said about an independent judiciary? Do they believe that”’

“This is cut and dried for the Roberts court as they sit back and allow these ambiguities to fester,” he added. “Do they believe in the rule of law? Do they believe in the separation of powers? Do they believe in three separate and equal branches of government, or are they just going to capitulate and forever make the third branch the weakest branch? We’ll see. A lot ahead of us.”
